Monthly Satsang Meditation: BuildingSpiritual Community Through Song

Deva Premal

TLDR: In this monthly virtual satsang, Deva Premal gathers a global community in real-time meditation, grounding the practice in the Three Jewels of Buddhist refuge (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), while teaching how mantra, song, and intentional community form the scaffolding of spiritual life. The session emphasizes that awakening is not a private affair—it happens within connection, particularly within a sangha that resonates with you and holds you safe.

What Is a Satsang and Why Does Deva Meet Weekly?

Deva Premal opens by introducing the monthly public satsang as an extension of a weekly practice. "This is our practice and this is our joy to be here every Saturday," she says, explaining that her local Gayatri Sangha meets virtually every week, and these larger online gatherings invite the global community to join. A satsang—literally "meeting of truth"—is held as a vessel where practitioners gather to meditate, sing, and absorb teachings together. Deva frames the experience as stepping outside of clock time into what she calls "this timeless space of meditation." The geographical reach of the gathering becomes itself a spiritual practice: she invites participants to visualize the global circle as a mala, a meditation beads necklace, with each person as a bead spanning across the globe.

How Does the Opening Breath Work?

Before diving into meditation, Deva teaches the foundational sound practice: the "Om" (also transcribed as "Oo" and "M"). She emphasizes a two-part structure—the "Oo" and the "M"—inviting the group to take a deep breath and sound together three times. Importantly, she notes that the "M" is not rushed; it is where the sound "resonates in our bodies." This distinction matters: chanting is not about vocal display but about felt vibration. The breath becomes a collective anchor, a way for thousands of people separated by continents to synchronize not just sound but also the somatic experience of resonance.

Why Honor the Land with a Cacao Mantra?

The session takes place in Costa Rica, and Deva chooses to begin the formal practice by honoring the place itself through a song dedicated to cacao. "Maestro Cacao, blood of the earth," she sings, acknowledging cacao as "a fruit of this place and the ritual that connects the people here." This small gesture—blessing the land before moving into global teaching—reflects a principle woven throughout the session: all spiritual practice is rooted, even when it spans the world virtually. The cacao song is taught call-and-response style, with Deva modeling the melody and the group joining, creating a collective voice. The practice of gratitude toward the earth and the plant medicines of a place is not separate from meditation; it is its opening gesture.

What Does the Song "Love Will Take Us All the Way" Teach?

After the cacao honoring, Deva and Miten lead a longer song that explores how to navigate life when difficult emotions or circumstances arrive. The lyrics acknowledge that "even if tonight will soon be over, even if today is here and gone, do not let the past hang on your shoulder." The song doesn't deny suffering—"even if your dreams are filled with shadows"—but instead offers a reframe: when you feel torn between what your mind says ("no") and what your heart says ("carry me away"), the teaching is to follow your heart. "Listen to your heart. Love will take you all the way," the refrain repeats. The song is not about denying reality but about choosing what faculty—mind or heart—we trust when navigating uncertainty. By the end, even fear is recontextualized: when "the God of mercy is knocking down your door," the invitation is to recognize love as the navigating principle, regardless of circumstances.

What Are the Three Jewels and Why Does Deva Bow to Them?

Midway through the satsang, Deva introduces the Three Jewels (or Three Refuges) of Buddhist practice: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. She explains that the Buddha represents the possibility of awakening itself. "If somebody can wake up, we can all wake up," she says, framing the Buddha not as a deity to worship but as proof of human potential. The mantra she teaches is Buddham Sharanam Gachami ("I take refuge in the Buddha"), simplified for the group to remember the key words: Sharanam and Gachami.

The second refuge, Dharma (the teachings), encompasses not only ancient scriptures but also the living teachings that arrive in real time. Deva gives modern examples: "even Instagram," she notes with humor, can deliver dharma when "something is just the right thing said at the right time in the right way." The throat chakra is her somatic anchor for dharma—this is where we receive, speak, and transmit teaching.

The third refuge, Sangha (community), is where Deva places special emphasis. She calls it "the spiritual community and that's so important and so precious." She notes a recent realization: sangha can be online. While she values in-person gatherings, the Gayatri Sangha app and these virtual satsangs have shown her that digital connection can hold the same power, provided it connects people who "resonate with you, that support you, that you can support, and that you know you are in a safe place with." Sangha is mapped to the heart chakra—the center of belonging and mutual support.

How Does Deva Link the Three Jewels to the Body?

Deva offers a somatic geography of the refuges. The Buddha, representing enlightenment and awakening, is located in the third eye chakra—the seat of vision and direct seeing. Dharma, the teachings, dwells in the throat chakra, the center of communication and transmission. Sangha, community, lives in the heart chakra. This mapping is not decorative; it shows practitioners that refuge is not abstract but felt, embodied. When you bow to the Buddha, you're activating your capacity for insight. When you honor the teachings, you activate your capacity to speak truth. When you embrace sangha, you activate your capacity to love and be held.

What Is the Gayatri Sangha App and Why Did Deva Start It?

Deva mentions that "once we started our Gayatri Sangha app, it changed things." While the transcript does not detail the app's full scope, the context makes clear that it was created to extend the weekly local sangha into a digital commons. The existence and growth of the app appear to have shifted Deva's understanding of what community can be. The app allows practitioners scattered across the world to gather in one virtual space, share prayers, stay connected between live satsangs, and support one another. This infrastructure of connection is not ancillary to spiritual practice—it is, in Deva's view, a modern expression of sangha's ancient purpose.

What Role Does Collective Singing Play in Spiritual Practice?

Throughout the session, song is not entertainment but practice. The call-and-response structure of teaching a mantra or melody by ear mirrors how knowledge was transmitted in oral traditions. When the group sings together, their voices literally vibrate the same frequency. Deva teaches the melodies slowly, often repeating phrases so that participants can absorb both the words and their emotional resonance. The practice acknowledges that words alone may not land; they must be sung, embodied, felt. Song also creates a container for vulnerability. When you are singing in a group—even virtually, even silently along with the video—there is permission to access feeling that might not arise in silence alone.

Where to go from here

If you are drawn to this teaching, consider seeking out or creating a sangha—whether in person or online—that resonates with your path. Deva's emphasis on finding people "you can support and that you can support" suggests that sangha is not passive attendance but mutual commitment. Explore the Three Jewels as a practical refuge when you feel uncertain: Can you connect to your own Buddha nature, the awakening that is possible? Can you find a teaching or teacher that clarifies your path? And can you find or build a community that holds you safe? You may also work with the mantra Sharanam Gachami in your own practice, whether aloud or silently, to anchor yourself in these three dimensions of spiritual life. Finally, if collective singing is new to you, seek out kirtan, satsang, or chant communities in your area or online—the direct experience of singing with others is often far more nourishing than reading or listening alone.

[10:24] [laughter]

[10:27] I've just been saying that we're so

[10:29] happy [music] to be back with you after

[10:32] we the last time that we saw each other

[10:35] was for the beginning of the year for

[10:36] the Gaia Japas. And

[10:40] we we never stop doing this like you

[10:43] know this is our practice and this is

[10:45] our joy to be here every Saturday we

[10:47] have a community a gaatri sana virtual

[10:50] community we meet every Saturday like

[10:52] this and then every now and again we say

[10:55] let's invite everybody around the world

[10:57] so this is where we are today we are

[10:59] just in this big circle around the world

[11:03] just taking time to be together and be

[11:05] in this timeless space of meditation,

[11:09] you know, but connected, feeling the

[11:11] connection. So, let's just close our

[11:13] eyes for a moment and actually tune into

[11:17] that circle around the world. It's like

[11:19] a mala that

[11:22] it's like we are the beads of a mala

[11:24] that spans the globe.

[11:34] Just bringing your attention to the

[11:40] the sounds without

[12:10] A few deep breaths. You can breathe out

[12:13] through the mouth just to let go of the

[12:16] week or the day.

[12:20] Just few sides.

[12:30] With the next deep breath, we're going

[12:32] to make the sound together three times

[12:36] with a big breath. So, take a deep

[12:38] breath.

[12:44] [music]

[12:54] Just a reminder, there's two sounds with

[12:56] the the

[12:59] O and then there's the M. So give

[13:01] yourself space for the M, the M part,

[13:06] because it's when it resonates in our

[13:08] bodies. So So you see that as two sounds

[13:11] with a deep breath and then to the end

[13:13] of the breath.

[14:21] That is really a fruit of this place and

[14:24] the ritual that connects the people

[24:00] [music]

[24:11] >> Even if tonight will soon be over,

[24:15] [music]

[24:16] even if [singing] today is here and

[24:19] gone,

[24:21] do not let the past [music and singing]

[24:23] hang on your should.

[24:26] What is done is done. [music]

[24:31] And even if your [singing] dreams are

[24:33] filled with shadows,

[24:36] even if [singing] you refuse to shine,

[24:41] we [music] can tell ourselves that

[24:43] nothing really [singing] matters. But

[24:46] [music]

[24:46] still, we can't deny

[24:49] that [singing] after all is [music]

[24:53] said and done,

[24:59] in the end, it's [singing] love [music]

[25:01] that leads us home. [music]

[25:10] So when the cold [music and singing]

[25:12] wind blows and the oceans roar and the

[25:17] God of [singing] love is [music]

[25:19] knocking at your door and your mind

[25:22] [singing] says no, but your heart says

[25:26] [music]

[25:26] carry me away.

[25:33] Follow your heart. [singing]

[25:34] [music]

[25:36] Love will take us all way.

[25:41] >> [music]

[25:43] >> All [singing] the way.

[25:48] Whatever [singing] that means.

[25:51] [music] All

[25:53] [singing]

[25:57] [music]

[25:58] wherever it leads.

[26:01] [singing]

[26:03] So when the cold wind blows and [music]

[26:06] the oions roar [singing]

[26:09] and the god of

[26:12] >> fear is [music and singing] knocking

[26:14] down your door and your heart says yes

[26:18] but your [music and singing] mind says

[26:21] not today.

[26:26] Well, you better listen [music] to your

[26:28] heart. Love will take you all the way.

[26:33] [music]

[26:43] >> [music]

[26:46] >> So even if [singing] tonight is filled

[26:49] with magic,

[26:51] [music] even if [singing] tomorrow never

[26:54] comes

[26:56] and even [music] if daily [singing]

[26:58] news is tragic,

[27:01] [music] well still we carry [singing] on

[27:07] on into the [music and singing] beauty.

[27:08] beauty of each moment

[27:12] on [singing] into the love that never

[27:15] dies. [music]

[27:17] Out beyond [singing] our dreams in

[27:19] pieces broken

[27:22] until we realize [music]

[27:28] that after all

[27:30] is said and done.

[27:38] >> In the end, [music and singing] it's

[27:39] love that leads us [music] all.

[27:48] So when the cold [singing] wind blows

[27:50] and the angels roar, the God of mercy

[27:55] [music and singing]

[27:56] is knocking down your door. And your

[27:59] mind says no, but your heart says

[28:03] [music] it's [singing] a beautiful day.

[28:09] [music]

[28:11] Listen to your heart.

[28:14] Love will [music and singing] take us

[28:17] all the way.

[28:19] You can [music] trust that.

[28:21] Listen [singing] to your heart.

[28:24] [music]

[28:25] Love will take us all the way.

[28:31] [music]

[28:44] Have your eyes open. Close your eyes for

[28:46] a moment.

[28:48] Just come home.

[28:51] Home to the sounds.

[28:55] Home to the silence.

[29:31] You see that the three troops? Haven't

[29:34] seen that for a while.

[29:35] >> Mhm.

[29:36] >> Seen that?

[29:37] >> Mhm.

[29:40] [music]

[29:43] This is called the the three jewels and

[29:46] it's really the the three things that

[29:49] help us navigate life. This is our

[29:51] connection to the enlightened ones and

[29:54] in this case we are singing to the

[29:56] Buddha and the Buddha is the uh the

[30:00] example that if it can happen to him, it

[30:02] can happen to us. If somebody can wake

[30:04] up, we can all wake up. So we say I take

[30:07] refuge in the Buddha. This is Buddham

[30:10] Shonam gachami. So if you can just

[30:12] remember shonam sham

[30:16] >> and gachami gachami

[30:19] >> you got most of the mantra. Um so

[30:22] Buddham shonam gachami

[30:27] >> then we bow down to the teachings.

[30:29] That's all the all the books and the

[30:32] teachings of scriptures the what books

[30:35] the the even Instagram you know those

[30:39] things that come to us in the right

[30:41] moment as those moments when we read

[31:25] our sana and this can be Um, I've

[31:30] learned now that it can actually be

[31:31] online. It's beautiful if we have

[31:33] obviously a physical meeting once in a

[31:40] resonate with you that support you that

[31:43] you can support and uh and that you know

[31:45] you are in safe in a safe place with

[39:36] [music]

[39:39] Ooh.

[39:41] [music]

[39:46] [music] Ooh. [singing]

[39:55] [music]

[40:00] >> [music]

[40:53] >> Just while we are

[40:56] tuning into the the the SA the

[40:58] community, I just want to say that it's

[41:01] so important to find our tribe and our

[41:05] people. And I used to think that online

[41:08] didn't really mean as much. But I've I I

[41:12] once we started our Gayatri SA app, it

[41:14] felt like I was I was connected and I

[41:18] like I could get up in the morning and

[41:20] feel that connection with our we call it

[41:22] our online.

[41:25] It's uh it's been 5 years now and we've

[41:29] been literally sitting together five

[41:32] years Saturday every every Saturday at

[41:36] the same time. If Mattel and I are on

[41:38] the road and we we have some replay so

[41:40] that the the circle never gets broken

[41:44] and uh it's

[41:46] >> a gathering place, a gathering time.

[41:48] >> Yeah. And it's uh so tangible and it's

[41:51] and it's also you know because we are

[41:53] also touring so we get to see you on the

[41:56] on the concerts and the events or you

[41:58] get to see each other. So when we come

[41:59] to your town usually in the in the lobby

[42:03] in during the concert we put a little

[42:05] sign so everybody can meet

[42:07] >> before the concert or in the in the

[42:09] break meet each other who's in the app.

[42:12] We were thinking to to say, you know,

[42:15] everybody in the app when you come to

[42:17] the concert, wear red

[42:19] and and

[42:20] >> red or white.

[42:21] >> Red or white.

[42:22] >> Red or white. Yeah.

[42:25] >> And um

[42:26] >> didn't really

[42:27] >> Yeah. Many people come and you don't see

[42:29] them because you don't go

[42:31] >> you don't go out.

[42:33] >> But I do. And uh and there's so many

[42:36] online communities now. So find the one

[42:38] that you resonate with and nourish it,

[42:41] you know, give it give it your presence,

[42:43] however that look, whatever that looks

[42:45] like. Some people

[42:47] they like to be in the chat. Some people

[42:48] like to come to the live streams. Some

[42:51] people like to come to the zooms. We do

[42:53] zooms every uh every month. We do um chi

[42:57] what we call chai time, which is

[43:00] basically a time to hang hang out

[43:03] together and share and

[43:05] >> see what happens. Sometimes we have a

[43:07] theme to us. It's really an important

[43:09] part of our lives. It it's become that

[43:12] way because it's it's real for us. It's

[43:15] it's just a real

[43:18] communication. And the fact that you

[43:21] guys also come, it just enriches so much

[43:24] the whole thing. So, it's we we're in a

[43:28] state of grace right now. It's as good

[43:30] as it gets. We can be connected like

[43:33] this in this way

[43:35] >> and just uh

[43:38] Um,

[43:40] >> so can I just finish my there's one more

[43:42] thing I want to show?

[43:43] >> Sure. Sh. I'm sorry.

[43:45] >> Uh,

[43:47] because I know this is the moment. So,

[43:49] yeah. So,

[43:52] nobody's turned away for for lack of

[43:54] funds. So, there's a little price that

[43:56] that is attached to this membership.

[43:58] It's um actually just $8 a month. But we

[44:02] really absolutely want to make sure that

[44:04] you know that if you write to us, you

[44:06] you get a free free entry and uh it's

[44:10] important to us that everybody is

[44:12] welcome and and you are totally totally

[44:15] appreciated in your presence.

[44:18] >> And uh this year we're actually going to

[44:19] come to South America after such a long

[44:24] time again to Brazil and Argentina and

[44:27] uh Chile and that's going to be in May.

[44:30] So that's a beautiful time to meet with

[44:32] you guys in South America and then later

[44:34] in Europe and just to not miss those

[44:38] times when they actually be in can be in

[44:40] the same room with hundreds of people

[44:43] singing like this. This is really very

[44:45] very

[44:46] uh unescribable. It's it's something we

[44:50] experience. So that's all I wanted to

[44:53] say

[44:54] >> with the SA. It's it's so nourishing,

[44:57] you know, to find our brothers and

[44:59] sisters and being able to reach out and

[45:02] and and have the wisdom of the of the

[45:05] community support us.

[45:09] >> Maybe while you're talking about the the

[45:12] app and the community, why don't we do

[45:13] the the names now? It's beautiful. We

[45:16] can carry on with more music after. But

[45:19] do you want a little song first?

[45:20] >> I would like another song first.

[45:22] >> Sure. Well, what about uh I like that

[45:25] one we sang last week.

[45:29] >> You like that? Okay. Okay, that's good.

[45:31] [laughter]

[45:32] >> So, this is Sorry.

[45:36] Omash

[45:37] actually it's

[45:40] Oh, you want this one? No, no, the other

[45:42] one.

[45:43] >> This is the one that This is the one, is

[45:45] it?

[45:45] >> Oh, you want the other one?

[45:48] >> She wants this one.

[45:49] >> Okay, this one. Okay.

[45:50] >> And you know what? Uh, we can do both.

[45:54] [laughter]

[45:55] [singing]

[45:56] [music]

[46:05] Omniv [singing]

[46:07] [music]

[46:11] [singing]

[46:17] [music]

[46:19] [singing]

[46:25] [music]

[46:30] [singing]

[46:33] [music]

[46:35] om.

[46:41] [singing]

[46:42] [music]

[46:46] [singing]

[46:48] [music]

[46:51] [singing]

[46:58] [music and singing]

[47:03] Oh my she [singing and music]

[56:06] [singing]

[56:08] Here they come. They're dancing to the

[56:11] sacred drum.

[56:16] And they know they're welcome here.

[56:20] And I see the [singing] shepher and

[56:21] [music] the mighty priest. I see the

[56:25] beauty and the beast.

[56:26] [music and singing]

[56:27] And we're singing. I have been released.

[56:31] And I am welcome here.

[56:37] I am [singing and music] welcome here.

[56:44] [singing and music]

[56:52] This will [music and singing] come.

[56:58] [music and singing]

[57:04] [music and singing]

[57:11] >> [music]

[57:15] >> stood alone at the gateless gate.

[57:20] I was too drunk on love to hesitate.

[57:25] [music]

[57:27] To the winds I cast my fate

[57:32] [music]

[57:34] and the remnants of my fear.

[57:39] I came to that place Dave was talking

[57:41] about

[57:43] um community there like when you meet a

[57:47] community of likeminded souls and I

[57:49] stood in this hot afternoon in India

[57:53] standing outside the ashram gate knowing

[57:56] that if I went in you know those times

[58:00] in your life right

[58:03] you think you can change the past but

[58:05] once you step into

[58:07] anything you you are

[58:12] you are beginning an adventure. And if

[58:15] it's a

[58:17] it's a a gathering of

[58:21] of people who feel like you and and

[58:25] understand life like you and support

[58:28] each other, then you're home,

[58:32] you know. And that's what I knew was

[58:33] happening to me, you know. I knew that

[58:36] if I jumped, that would be the end of my

[58:39] old life and the beginning of now.

[58:45] So I took [music] a deep breath and I

[58:48] left.

[58:51] And I awoke as [music] if I'd never

[58:55] slept.

[58:57] Tears of gratitude [singing] I wept.

[59:00] [music]

[59:02] I was welcome here.

[59:07] So bring your laughter and bring your

[59:09] tears, [music]

[59:10] your [singing] busy lives and your

[59:14] careers. And bring the pain you carried

[59:17] [music] for years. All [singing]

[59:19] is welcome here.

[59:28] Freedom

[59:30] not so far away.

[59:32] >> [music]

[59:33] >> And there's just one price we all have

[59:35] to pay.

[59:38] We live our [music and singing] dreams

[59:39] until they fade away. And let let let

[59:43] let let let [music] them go. Live our

[59:47] [singing] dreams

[59:49] until they fade away.

[59:53] [music]

[59:56] Live our dreams until they fade

[59:59] [music and singing] away. And let them

[1:00:01] go. That's the part. That's the part.

[1:00:05] Live our dreams [music]

[1:00:07] until they [singing] fade away and let

[1:00:09] them go. Let's sing it [music] together.

[1:00:13] Live our [singing] dreams until they

[1:00:16] [music] fade away and let them go.

[1:00:22] Live our [singing] dreams [music]

[1:00:24] until they fade away. Let them go.

[1:00:29] >> [music]

[1:00:30] >> All is welcome here.

[1:00:35] And now [singing]

[1:00:40] here [music]

[1:00:41] [singing]

[1:00:43] and now.

[1:00:46] [singing and music]

[1:00:52] [music]

[1:01:03] >> [music]

[1:01:04] >> broken hearts and broken wings.

[1:01:08] Bring it all.

[1:01:11] Bring everything. [music]

[1:01:16] Bring the song that you fear to sing.

[1:01:20] All is welcome

[1:01:23] here.

[1:01:35] [sighs]

[1:01:47] Okay.

[1:01:49] Are you okay? You going to do some

[1:01:52] supports?

[1:01:54] Do something.

[1:01:59] >> You going to introduce it or

[1:02:01] >> would you like to introduce it?

[1:02:04] [laughter]

[1:02:06] >> Fine.

[1:02:10] Oh, guys,

[1:02:24] >> there's many people.

[1:02:25] >> Mhm.

[1:02:25] >> You know that thing they were saying

[1:02:27] with CO? We started off one day.

[1:02:31] >> Well, yeah, it was in CO. the day the

[1:02:34] first day we started this off in March,

[1:02:38] we just came on the on the on the on the

[1:02:42] uh I think it was Facebook

[1:02:46] and we just said if anyone wants to join

[1:02:47] us [music] we're going to chant Gatri

[1:02:49] mantra today and people joined us and so

[1:02:53] we did it the next day we would do it

[1:02:55] anyway so we just uh we just thought

[1:02:58] we'd just uh invite people to come and

[1:03:01] we did it every day for 77 days. Every

[1:03:05] day we didn't miss one day. At two

[1:03:07] o'clock we were there and we and by the

[1:03:10] end of those 77 days 50,000 people were

[1:03:14] singing the guy mantra with us.

[1:03:17] >> It was amazing and and uh and and uh and

[1:03:21] this and the power of connection. It's

[1:03:24] so

[1:03:26] >> I mean it didn't mean anything to us.

[1:03:28] There was nobody here. But to see

[1:03:30] figures, it's kind of a it's it's just

[1:03:32] it's I don't know. It's just so weird

[1:03:35] for me coming from a whole different

[1:03:37] world. What I where I came from, not

[1:03:39] like you guys. It was very still old old

[1:03:43] school, you know.

[1:03:46] So to think of 55,000 years.

[1:03:53] Yeah.

[1:03:55] and the amounts of people

[1:03:58] and what do we do with the what do we do

[1:04:01] with this community? What shall we do?

[1:04:04] What shall we do? You we all here and uh

[1:04:09] uh we're making it up as we go along

[1:04:11] like with with inviting really far out

[1:04:14] teachers to come and talk for an hour,

[1:04:16] share their wisdom. That's going through

[1:04:19] all all the WhatsApp. some amazing

[1:04:21] teachers, some honorable teachers, and

[1:04:24] it's such a great treasure trove for me.

[1:04:29] Plus, well, mainly because it has

[1:04:31] David's uh vegan recipes. That's why

[1:04:34] it's such a treasure trove. [laughter]

[1:04:40] >> Anyway, tense leading up to [laughter]

[1:04:42] >> How do you know what I'm leading up to?

[1:04:44] >> What I hope you're leading up to.

[1:04:46] >> I'm not leading up to anything.

[1:04:47] >> Oh, no.

[1:04:48] >> No. I was just talking to my friends.

[1:04:50] >> Okay. [laughter]

[1:04:53] >> I was leading up to the prayer the

[1:04:55] prayers.

[1:04:56] >> Do you want to talk about that or

[1:04:58] >> Sure. [laughter]

[1:05:01] >> So, we have this ritual that has come

[1:05:03] out of this richness of this community

[1:05:05] that cares for each other. And you know,

[1:05:08] you always want to

[1:05:11] um you want to be there for your friends

[1:05:14] and and you also it it makes us feel

[1:05:20] it makes us feel grateful when when

[1:05:22] people call upon us. You know, when

[1:05:24] people come to you and say, "I need

[1:05:25] help." you feel like you you feel

[1:05:29] somehow um

[1:05:31] I mean it's it's a weird word but you

[1:05:33] feel grateful that you that you're

[1:05:34] allowed to help or that you're allowed

[1:05:36] to support or that you are that you're

[1:05:38] being asked to help and support. And the

[1:05:40] way we can do this here in the app is

[1:05:42] that we can call out people's names who

[1:05:45] are in need of extra blessing, support,

[1:05:48] healing. Some have asked for themselves,

[1:05:51] some have asked for friends. And so we

[1:05:54] have we found this little ritual where

[1:05:56] we will call out the name and you repeat

[1:05:59] the name in your home with that sense of

[1:06:02] blessings for that particular person

[1:06:04] that is in need right now. And since we

[1:06:06] are all one, it's all us anyway. you

[1:06:09] know, everybody's gone through stuff

[1:06:12] that you have gone through or will go

[1:06:14] through or your friends have gone

[1:06:16] through or, you know, so we all we all

[1:06:19] um

[1:06:22] singing and praying for each other, to

[1:06:25] each other, and for ourselves at the

[1:06:27] same time.

[1:06:29] And we're going to invoke that with a

[1:06:31] mantra sarvisham which calls upon the uh

[1:06:35] well-being of all people and the sense

[1:06:38] of abundance of all people and the

[1:06:41] happiness of all people and the uh no

[1:06:46] yeah no sorrow no uh no fighting and

[1:06:51] sense of peace with Shanti Shanti Shanti

[1:06:55] and then we're going to be calling out

[1:06:56] the names for you to Pete

[1:06:59] >> were sent in this week.

[1:07:00] >> Yeah,

[1:07:01] >> this week.

[1:07:02] >> Yeah. So, in the app, we we we always

[1:07:04] have a a place where people can put the

[1:07:06] names that they that they would like to

[1:07:08] be included in the prayer circle.

[1:07:12] >> Shall we share today?

[1:07:13] >> Do you want to do or

[1:07:15] >> you need glasses or you have

[1:07:18] >> Yeah, I need glasses. Do you do you need

[1:07:21] glasses?

[1:07:21] >> No. [laughter]

[1:07:23] >> Don't forget, Sh.

[1:07:29] So uh let's just close our eyes and also

[1:07:32] you know this is a moment to

[1:07:34] tune into the people you have in your

[1:07:38] circle that you maybe weren't [music]

[1:07:39] able to write the name in today. Include

[1:07:44] yourself in the prayer circle.

[1:14:41] >> Sasha Sasha.

[1:14:47] Let's tune into the

[1:14:49] to the soundless sound, the sound. And

[1:14:53] there is a M

[1:14:55] in the word home. And that's not for

[1:14:57] nothing because really the home is the M

[1:15:01] is where the home is. This is where we

[1:15:02] can find the

[1:15:05] the sense of

[1:15:08] being at home and being in the right

[1:15:11] place and being protected, being

[1:15:13] comfortable with ourselves. So if you

[1:15:16] want to put your hands on your heart or

[1:15:18] your belly, wherever you feel that

[1:15:19] vibration of the sound warm in your

[1:15:21] body, you can enjoy that. And let's just

[1:15:25] make that like waves in the ocean.

[1:15:27] [music] So follow your own breathing

[1:15:30] rhythm as long as you like to

[1:15:33] to inone the sound. O and then

[1:15:37] you come back to another big breath and

[1:15:40] let the sound again come to the end of

[1:15:41] the breath. of long waves in your own

[1:15:44] rhythm.

[1:15:48] [music]

[1:16:04] Oh.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

The Three Jewels are Buddha (the awakened potential within all beings), Dharma (the teachings and truths that guide us), and Sangha (the spiritual community that supports our path). Deva explains that if the Buddha could wake up, so can we—and that dharma can arrive through any source at the right moment, while sangha is the safe community that holds us accountable and nourished.
Deva notes that while in-person gatherings are valuable, digital sangha—like her Gayatri Sangha app and monthly virtual satsangs—can be equally powerful when it connects people who truly resonate, support each other, and feel safe together. The key is genuine connection, not just passive viewing.
Deva teaches that the Om has two parts: the 'Oo' and the 'M'. The 'M' should not be rushed because that is where the sound resonates in the body. Giving full space to the 'M' allows practitioners to feel the vibration rather than just produce a sound.
Yes, according to Deva. Dharma is any teaching that arrives at the right moment in the right way. She notes that even Instagram posts can carry dharma when they offer clarity, wisdom, or truth exactly when you need it. The source matters less than the timing and resonance.
Deva maps the Buddha to the third eye chakra (insight and vision), Dharma to the throat chakra (communication and transmission), and Sangha to the heart chakra (belonging and love). This somatic geography reminds us that refuge is not abstract but felt in the body.
Deva suggests looking for people who resonate with you, who you can support and who can support you, and with whom you feel safe. This can be a local in-person group, an online community, or both. The Gayatri Sangha app and monthly satsangs are examples of how digital space can hold sangha.
By singing to cacao at the beginning of the Costa Rican satsang, Deva acknowledges that all spiritual practice is rooted in gratitude for place and the beings (including plants) that sustain us. This grounds the global, timeless space of meditation in the specific, sacred land where the gathering is held.
